When you contribute photos for a stitch pattern, you can use top of that pattern's page to show an ad which links to your Etsy or Ravelry Shop, Knitting Blog, or Social Media Site. You can also add a simple message to honor a loved one. (Of course you do not need to link to any site, and you are welcome to donate anonymously.)

Click the "Needs Contributor" link under the "Browse" menu.

You can also click any other Browse menu, do searches from the search bar at the top of the screen, Advanced searches, or Saved searches. Once the search results are displayed, open the "Filter" drop-down menu, scroll to the bottom, and check "Needs Contributor". Uncheck "Has Photos".

When you reserve a Stitch Pattern, it lets others know that someone has committed to knitting a swatch and uploading Right Side (RS) and Wrong Side (WS) photos of that swatch.

1. Sign in.
2. Read the "Rules and Guidelines" below.
3. Find a Stitch Pattern which needs photos. (See instructions above.)
4. At the top of that Stitch Pattern's page, click the "Get Started" button.
   
5. Check the box to indicate that you have read and agree to follow the "Rules and Guidelines".
   
6. Click the "Reserve" button

The top of that Stitch Patterns page will show a "Thank You" message and a link to  My Account > Contributions page where you will see the due date and buttons to either sumit the photos of your swatch or cancel the reservation.

Do you have a Stitch Pattern that you would like to see in NimbleWands? Please use the Contact form, select 'Suggest a Pattern' as the subject, and include the text for that Stitch Pattern in the Message.

Once you reserve a stitch pattern, you will have 6 weeks to submit Right Side (RS) and Wrong Side (WS) photos.

You can have at most 3 stitch patterns reserved at a time.

You can cancel the reservation at any time by going to the  My Account > Contributions page, finding the reserved stitch pattern, and clicking 'Cancel'.

If you choose to continue with the contribution, follow the steps below:

1. Knit a swatch following the pattern, either worked flat or from the chart. Cast on enough stitches so that the swatch will clearly show the stitch pattern. For patterns asking you to cast on a multiple of 35 or more stitches, one repeat should be fine. For patterns asking you to cast on fewer stitches, cast on a multiple of that number resulting in 40 or 50 stitches total. For patterns asking you to cast on a multiple of 10 or fewer stitches, cast on just enough so the pattern can be clearly seen, even if the total cast on is fewer than 40. Knit enough rows to form a square. The goal is to have a swatch that gives a good representation of what the pattern looks like.
2. It is possible that you may find flaws in the pattern. If that happens, you can try to fix the errors yourself. If you do, please take note of what you changed to make the fix and include that information in the form you will use when you submit RS and WS photos of the swatch. If you can't find a solution, please send a note using the form under the "Contact" menu. That note should include the ID of the pattern ex: 22B023 and a brief description of the problem. You can either Cancel the reservation on the  My Account > Contributions page, or wait for a response email from NimbleWands which hopefully includes a fixed version of the pattern.
3. Once you have finished knitting the swatch, take photographs of the right side and wrong side of the swatch. Crop the photos so they are 250 by 250 px square and the entire image is filled by the swatch itself, looking strait on. You may want to stretch and pin the swatch flat to make the pattern easy to see. Feel free to edit the photos in Photoshop, Inkscape, or your favorite image editing tool to adjust exposure, contrast, etc. Again, the goal is to have an image that gives a good representation of what the pattern looks like.
4. When you are ready to submit the photos, sign in to NimbleWands and go to the  My Account > Contributions page. Find the contribution for this stitch pattern, and click 'Submit'. When the form appears, upload the photos.
5. Please read Attributes Explained and select the attribute values which best describe the swatch you knitted.
6. On the form you can now also specify how your contribution will appear at the top of that stitch pattern's page. Choose the name to display as the Contributor (if left blank, this will default to "Anonymous"). You can choose to upload images which advertise your fiber-arts related shop, blog, or social-media site. Enter a url. When someone clicks on your ad, they will be taken to that location. You can also enter a brief message, such as "Knitted in honor of my best friend who is always there for me." The form will ask you to attest that you knitted and photographed the swatch yourself or that you have explicit permission from the knitter and/or photographer to make this submission.
7. After you have submitted the photos, the status of the reservation changes to "Submitted". If you decide to make any changes to the submission you can click the "Update" button.
8. When a NimbleWands curator starts to review the submission, the status of the reservation changes to "Pending Appoval". If all looks good, a NimbleWands curator will set the status to "Approved". If something needs to be changed before the submission can be approved, you will be contacted by email and asked to make the necessary changes.
